Are Christmas cards killing our planet?

I know it is early to be thinking of Christmas, after all summer is not even over yet. Of course the local news is already talking about the coming shopping season and if it will be a bad one or not. It is so unfortunate that the human world is based upon people making things to sell to people that buy things. That brings me to the annual tradition of sending Christmas cards. That tradition, in my opinion should end. It takes vital planet resources just for making money. Electronic Christmas cards are much better, or better yet, just talk to your loved one and exchange holiday greetings. Don't help destroy our planet by buying something that will get tossed out after a week or so. Say no to Christmas cards this year.
