Doris Day and her love of animals

The once famous movie actress, turned animal advocate was going to be the main subject of this little post. That was until I tried to do some research into the many animal organizations that have her name attached to them. Some were, at one point, founded by Doris herself, while others are just simply riding on her name in order to fund their own questionable efforts.

Take for example the Doris Day Animal League which in 2007 became a part of the Humane Society of the USA and is no longer associated with Doris Day. The Doris Day Animal League still had Doris involved with them in 2004 but I could find no later updates on their website. She is not listed on their board of directors. Their last annual report listed on their website is for 2005. Either someone is not updating their website or the league might not exist anymore.

Throw also in to the works several questionable blogs and websites claiming to be part of the Doris Day charities and you have a very confused reader - me.

So how did I manage to sort everything out? I knew that Doris owned a hotel in Carmel so I found the website for it. It is called Cypress Inn. On their website it has the correct animal organization that Doris is affiliated with and that is the DORIS DAY ANIMAL FOUNDATION

At 87, Doris Day is still actively involved with helping animals. You can read her latest blog post on the DDAF website.

Another All the Creatures blog

I don’t know what prompted me to do it, but I started another All the Creatures blog at Today.com. Here is the link to it:

All the Creatures at Today.com

I think that originally I did it to provide another blog with links back to this one. The fact they have a blogging community over there is another bonus. I have instant traffic to the blog. So far I have written about Patrick Swayze and his Arabian stallion Tammen, the care of Seahorses and How to Insult a Horse Owner. Each and every time I have written a blog post, the post has been featured on their front page under the hobbies section. I was astounded at the publicity.

The Today.com blogs have advertising on them that is put there by Today.com. I am not allowed to advertise on there but simply write blog posts. The blogs cannot be the personal type of blogs. So what advantage it is to have a blog over there? Simple, I get paid every time someone visits my blog. So far I am up to a whooping .10 cents!

They do have in the works a plan on picking the best bloggers and actually paying them a real salary to blog full time. They had mentioned a yearly salary in the range of $20K to $40K a year. if you think that you might want to check it out here is their banner, just click on it to take you there.

The old Critters blog

I just went and looked at the blogging dashboard for the old “All the Critters” blog. If you are a new reader, it was where this blog use to be located. I have not added any new blog posts over there since August of 2008 but it still gets 150 visitors or more a day. It is probably the fact that the blog was well over 2 years old there. I am going to have to remove the duplicate posts since I transferred all the blog posts to this blog now. The search engines are still sending people to that blog instead of this one.
