All the Creatures

The other “All the Creatures” blog at today.com has been changed. Today.com has moved everything over to blogdog.com which I really don’t understand. I have updated the link to it in the right side column and changed the name of the blog to “All the Creatures II”  So far they have been having problems with the new format. The photos were hosted over at today.com and it looks like they wiped the today site clean, and with it all the hosted photos. I really can’t understand why a large blogging community would make such a dramatic change. They have now lost all search engine ranking and it is like starting all over again.

This blog continues to grow. My daily visitors are up and so are the spam comments. I am so thankful for the spam filter. I still look at what shows up in the spam folder to see if anything of value is there but mostly it is long winded comments with 100’s of spam links to strange sites with keywords that don’t even match the links. So here is a friendly reminder, don’t spam this blog with viagra, books on tape, sensa scams, or my all time favorite horse race gambling. It seems that because I write about horses, all the horse racing odds makers want to push their system on this blog. Leave this blog alone.

All the Creatures

Since adding the spam filter Akismet to this blog, it has caught over 13,000 comments that I don’t even have to see before deleting. Many of the comments have had lists of websites such this:

www.quicktrimcelluslim.net
www.buypdasforcheap.com
www.getlotsofdeals.com

And on and on. I have seen other animal blogs abandoned with the comments put on auto approve and they have become a magnet for spam. Having a blog is much more than just writing a few blog posts here and there but maintaning a good place for visitors to come and come back again.  I intend to keep making this blog better and better each day.

I am just doing some blog maintenance today, so if you see or don’t see a few things from time to time, that is just me moving things around a bit. I am also removing the ability of visitors to post comments on posts older than 6 months. While doing that I might remove a post or 2 if they contain nothing but broken links. I have found that by disallowing the commenting ability on the older posts it cuts down on the spam comments dramatically. Instead of me filtering comments with links to phentermine, smokeless cig and gambling website links I can have more time to blog.
