Decorating your home, pet lover’s style

Is there anyone that owns a pet that has not at one time or another decorated a room or part of their home to reflect that they love their pet? My own dinning room has photos, drawings and little sculptures of horses. The photos are of our own horses, the drawings were done by family members depicting horses and the little sculptures looked so much like our horses that I just had to have them.

I have visited friends homes that had their kitchen devoted to their dog’s breed. Saint Bernards even adorned their kitchen tiles. I think the most common room for animals to be a welcome addition to is the baby’s room.

Where else could you devote a whole wall to the jungle and get away with it?

Another common room to decorate with animals is the bathroom. My daughter is an avid marine life fancier and so her bathroom has ceramic tropical fish on the blue walls and everything either is tropical fish or dolphins.

So do you have a room that is nothing but animals?

If you have not noticed, I would like to direct your attention to the tab at the top of the page. The one that says “the pet store” was just added a few days ago. I have been busy adding items to the store. Right now I have been featuring the large selection of doggy Halloween costumes. I will be adding a whole section on dog grooming supplies with everything from walk in tubs, shampoos to clippers. I have been noticing an increase of searches for reptile and bird items so I will be added them too. I’ll be also adding a section of ferret supplies. If you know of anything that you can’t find online and know the brand name or a description of the item just leave a comment and I’ll try and track it down.

Feeding your fish

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: fish, pet health, pets

What do you do when you go on vacation and you have fish as pets? If you have an aquarium you can purchase those “weekend” feeder blocks you can place in the tank. If you have fresh water fish in your tank you can also buy some floating plants they can kibble on and the plant can also supply some limited filtration.

That is fine for tank kept fish but what about pond kept fish? Most pond kept fish need to be fed twice a day if the pond is man made and does not have a natural bottom in which the fish can search for food. Do you have someone to feed the fish? If not you can purchase an automatic pet feeder that will dispense fish food at regular intervals. Here is a picture of what they look like:feeder.jpg

This feeder can be set to dispense 1oz of pelleted feed per minute. There are many other types of automatic pet and fish feeders on the market, I even have 5 automatic horse feeders that are designed to dispense pelleted horse feed in the mornings. Just do an internet search and you are sure to come up with something on sale for what your needs are.

A word of caution about automatic pet feeders, they will only dispense dry non-sticky feeds. Don’t use feeds that have any sugar or molasses in it as it will only clog up the mechanism.
