Horses love to nibble

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: horse, humor, ranching

I have a small herd of beavers, at least they think they are beavers, they nibble on trees and bushes out in pasture. When we lived on a ranch that had no trees in the pastures, the horses would nibble on the wooden fences. Horses will also reach over fences to nibble on anything that interests them. I had a beautiful young willow tree that had been growing about 6 feet outside of our pasture fence. The willow tree was to be a shade tree for our deck that was another 15 feet from the tree. One day, Kid, one of our horses, just stretched out his neck and reached the trunk of the tree and snapped it in half.

The willow tree also serves as a reminder that anything located within reach of a horse can be damaged. This includes car mirrors, which often get chomped off, if the car is parked too close to the horses’ pasture. This is something that your cheap car insurance will not cover. I was once at a boarding stable that the manager had to explain to visitors why they could not park next to the horses. Most of them were not aware of horses dismantling things within their reach.

Are you handy with a sewing needle? Then you can make these adorable Victorian outfits for your little four legged friend (I wonder if our cat would wear it). I think that the dog model for the outfits is just precious. Here is the link for the sewing pattern if you are so inclined to make it. Who knows, maybe your little one with be the next Wishbone. The same website has 2 pages of dog clothing, beds and other dog related sewing patterns and here is the link to that.

The idiots guide to aquariums

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: animals, fish, humor, strange

The easiest way to have an aquarium is not to own fish. What……not own fish? Yep, that is what I just wrote. You recall the burning yule log DVD that you play during the holidays…..because you don’t have a fireplace? Well there is now an aquarium DVD for people who don’t have a fish tank. The size of the virtual fish are only limited to the size of your TV screen, so the bigger the better.

living_aquarium.jpg

The DVD has 103 minutes of …..fish? There are 3 scenes and it has options for music too. What is next that we will find on sale, a DVD of a hamster cage with your virtual pet hamster running around on the wheel? It would be perfect for people who hate to clean the cage out. How about a virtual exotic animal, like a lemur or a cheetah, or would that be too difficult to put on a DVD. Just think of having a cheetah pacing up and down a cage for hours on end just to display it on your TV when friends come over. Has technology gone too far? Why would you want a pretend pet anyway….oops, I forgot that we all had pretend pets or playmate when we were little, but why do that when we got older?

Oh well, to each there own. If someone will buy it, someone will make or create it and sell it to you….for a price.
