Jobs with animals

If you are an animal lover then having a job where you are actively involved with animals everyday is a dream come true. My ideal job would be either handling, working with or training animals. Jobs I would suck at is jobs in sales. I think that both Petsmart and Petco have turned me down more than once over the years. I just have no retail experience and doing a “hard sell” on someone is not my idea of working with animals.

I have interviewed with both companies and I was told if I wanted to work as one of their dog trainers I would have to sell the clients on books and equipment that may or may not be needed by the client. That was not my idea of helping people but helping a company into dog lovers wallets. I passed on those jobs.

I have also heard some horror stories about how the store dog trainers are treated by those companies. Do you have stories about those stores you would like to share here? Go right ahead.

Dog agility

The sport of agility has been around for 20+ years now. I remember watching in person at least 22 years ago when the tunnels and other colorful agility equipment first came on the scene. Before then it was all the plain wooden obstacles like the jumps and ramps. In those days the fitness equipment for the dogs was hard to come by. Much of it was expensive and the mainstream pet stores were not carrying any of it.

As the sport became more popular more equipment became available. You can also see in the photo above that the bending poles are no longer stuck in the ground like they use to be, equipment has come a long way. I will also be adding a section in my online pet store to include agility equipment for dogs as well as videos and books on training your dog for agility.

Snake and reptile supplies

I live in an area of the country were pet supplies are few and far between. Sure I have a local feed store and a Walmart but try and find a 50 gallon aquairium tank or a heated rock at those places. I have to drive for 50 miles each way to get to a pet store that has those things. Because of that fact it dawned on me that many of my readers were also rural residents. So what I did was add a reptile supply section to my online store. You can find it easily here.
