A pet owner who is allergic to their pets

I am one of those people who has pets but I am also allergic to our cats. I am not allergic to the dogs or horses but the cats will trigger allergic reactions. I am really thankful for modern allergy medicine. Claritin has become my savior on more than one occasion. Years ago I would have to resort to constant hand washing since my allergic reactions would be triggered by me touching my face with my fingers after touching the cat. That in turn would make my eyes water and itch. When I was young we did not have pets since I grew up in apartment buildings and it was not until I was in my late teens that I found out I was allergic to cats. After seeing one of my allergic reactions to a cat my mom bought me one of those allergy mattress covers thinking that would help. She never caught on that my mattress was not the cause of my allergies. I moved before she had the chance to rip out all the carpets and replace them with wood floors because of my “allergy problem.”

I love my cats and with the help of my allergy meds, I will have them until they or I die.

Breeding and raising baby animals

f you have ever bred and raised animals like I have then you would know that proper nutrition is absolutely essential for the success and health of both the mother and the offspring. With the proper diet you don’t have to add any prenatal vitamins to their diet.

Most people find out from their vets that you feed puppy food to pregnant dogs and kitten food to pregnant cats. The reason for that is that the “growth” formula foods have all the nutrition that the mother needs to pass on to her unborn offspring. Don’t take my word for it - ask your vet.

Pets in TV series

Have you noticed that recently there has been an extreme lack of pets shown in TV series? There use to be at least one well known pet in a TV series each season but for the last several seasons I cannot think of one pet on any show. Is it a sign of the times? Maybe those people in charge of putting those shows on the air don’t own pets themselves so they identify more with the show than everyone else.

I would love to see more pets in TV shows that did not become part of the story line because they died. I remember when we found out that the kids on the “Everybody Loves Raymond,” had a hamster because it was missing then it died.

Pets play such a large part in the majority of households in the USA, yet they are not on TV as part of the cast in shows. What is up with that?

Just a quick note on what I have been doing with the blog. You will notice that many of the older blog posts no longer allow people to comment. I am following the trend of the more successful blogs that shut off comments on older posts. I will be only allowing comments on the blog posts that are under 3 months old. Even though my spam filter was getting the majority of the spam comments and automatically deleting it, I still had to wade through those others that put out links to places I did not want to link to. My goodness, even those people would sign themselves with spammy names like “Anilox cleaning” or “30 days to whiter teeth.” Enough is enough.
