Horse blanket repair

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: horse, tack

One way that I save some money with my horses is to make repairs to items that are either worn or damaged by the horses. Horse blankets are one of the most expensive items that you can buy for your horse. A good quality turnout blanket will cost at least $100, if not more. The cheaper ones are under $80. When I shop for one I try to find one that is marked down at least 50%. I occasional get lucky and find one that is 80% marked down.

I also try and repair those horse blankets if they get damaged. Sometimes they are so badly ripped they are beyond repair and other times the damage is in a location that cannot easily be repaired at all. The hardest part about horse blanket repair is the actual material handling of the blanket while trying to sew it on the sewing machine. The blanket is so bulky and thick that it is hard to handle.

There are people who make a living by just offering a horse blanket repair and washing service. That is something that I do not envy one bit. More power to them. I’ll just stick to doing minor sewing repairs on my blankets and turnouts.

Christmas shopping for my pets

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: Pet sites, pet store, pets, tack

Every year my pets get some treats for Christmas. It could be anything from an apple and a carrot for each horse to a new doggy bed for each of our dogs. This year it looks like I might be getting more elaborate gifts for my pets. Since most of our local stores don’t have a large selection of pet and livestock supplies, I will be doing the Cyber Monday shopping thing, but not on Cyber Monday.

Internet shopping for my horses has become a habit since the local tack shops started shutting down almost 7 years ago. Remember Stateline Tack that use to be inside each Petsmart? Petsmart got rid of them and when they did that I stopped shopping there. So online I went. I have become a regular shopper of some online tack supply stores and I know which ones to avoid. I also find out from my cyber friends which ones have given them poor service and avoid them too. If online companies think that their customers do not talk about them online, then they would be wrong, very wrong.

Horse blanket shopping

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: horse, tack

I know that this is the worse time of year to shop for a winter turnout blanket for my horse, but since he shredded his current one yesterday I had no choice. The 2 feed stores in my area wanted a mint for the simplest basic canvas turnout so internet shopping I went. With my credit card sitting on the table next to my laptop, I visited eBay, Dover, Stateline and a few of the advertisers that on on this blog. I ended up at LibertyVille Saddle Shop and found one on sale for only $20 plus $8.95 shipping. That price beats eBay by $30.

My horse is current wearing a fixer up blanket that has so many stitches in it that I wonder when he will destroy that one. I just hope it lasts until the new one arrives.
