In this day of prepackaged pet foods it is often hard to imagine what many animals actually eat. Take for example the parrot, what do they eat? Is it fruit, nuts, or do they hunt in the wild?

A parrots diet will be highly based on where does the parrot live if it were in the wild. The larger parrots that live in the canopy of the jungle will eat more fresh fruits and vegetables than the smaller parrots who live nearer the ground. The ground dwelling parrots will eat more seeds than those that live higher up in the trees.

So, armed with that information, you will need to find out more about your parrot’s native habitat.

The next time you treat yourself to a basket with fruit, remember that your parrot can join you with your tasty snack. They also enjoy fresh vegetables and broccoli is a favorite.

I visit several animal message boards. My main purpose is to find some interesting news and links to other websites that cover the rarer animal news stories. It is rare that I leave a comment on the boards and even rarer that I end up in a heated debate on one, such as what happened a few days ago.

A simple post about a dog rescue escalated into name calling of those who held the management jobs at the rescue. Then the trolls took over and completely turned it into a discussion about killing wildlife. The message board administrator got on the ball and removed the discussion. Then one day later someone started up another thread about the wildlife killing again. This was not about hunting but a discussion about the right to kill any wildlife that comes on to your property that you don’t want there. Dumb me had to jump in an mention that wildlife is protected by laws and Fish and Game authorities in each state. At that point I got jumped on!!

I think I am back to being a lurker on the message boards for the next few weeks at least.

I guess our backyard is now on the afternoon munch list for a small herd of 8-9 white tailed deer. There are 3 does and their fawns that gather and eat the lawn before heading off to the 60 acre field next door.  I’ll try and get some good photos and put them up on the blog.

I did notice one older fawn that was on the thin side and had a thinning coat. I talked to a local hunter and he told me that lice was a big problem with the deer herds in the area. I have found that the hunters are a better gauge of what is going on with the local wildlife than the official fish and game authorities.

In the next few months I should see the does with this years little fawns. I have not seen the bucks yet but they are probably around. Last year there was a group of 3 bucks that use to travel through the area, but I have not seen them this year so far.
