SeaWorld feels the effects of the economy

Posted by: Jan S  :  Category: animals, fish, wildlife, zoo

The animal world has seen the effects of the recession with abandoned pets, horses and livestock being fed less by their owners and slowly starved to death and now SeaWorld is having layoffs. 350 people will be laid off, or have been already, since the announcement of them was at the same time they were happening.

The big claim was of course the problems with the economy but it looks like it was more likely the fact that SeaWorld was purchased by the Blackstone Group and they are cost cutting to line more pockets of the executives. Let’s hope that the cost cutting does not extend to the animals and their care but I know that when big business starts cutting away the animals always lose.

For more information about the huge layoff the link to the story is below

Skunks as pets

Would you have a pet skunk? If you said no because of their noxious hgh spray from their glands then think again. Having a pet ferret or an un-altered male cat can smell just as bad.

But you don’t have to worry about those scent glands, they are removed when the pet baby skunk is only days old.

Pet skunks are treated very much like cats with their vaccines. In fact they are more cat like than dogs in their general body make-up. They also fair better on cat food than dog food but they do make skunk food for pet skunks too.
