A diet pill for obese dogs - All the Creatures

I guess it was to finally happen they have developed diet pills for obese dogs. The diet pill that I have been hearing about is Slentrol. It is made just for those dogs that have been classified as obese. Now here is where I wonder what happened to just feeding the dog less? It is not as if the dog can go shopping for food or help themselves to what ever is in the fridge at anytime of the day or night. If several members of the family are feeding the dog then that should stop and only one person should be responsible for feeding the dog. That way everyone knows if the dog has been fed and how much the dog is getting. It all boils down to the fact that people want quick and easy fixes in the form of a pill to even help out an obese dog.

This dog’s obesity is likely the cause of many factors included but limited to lack of scheduling which family member feeds the dog on a given day, feeding cheap dog food containing more filler than actual healthy ingredients, failure to let the dog get his exercise the dog by allowing him to run in a dog park, taking him/her out for a walk, romping in the backyard with the children or even the adult! It also seems as if this dog has not had many annual checkups with a veterinarian. If he/she had been to a veterinarian then the animal doctor could have caught the condition sooner rather than later and if the family or single owner had not complied the doctor could have turned the owner(s) over to the animal protection program available in each state so they could talk to the owner(s) to set up a plan to reduce the dog’s weight or if the owner(s) refuse, then it’s time to take the dog away for his/her own good.

Humans are not the only creatures that suffer from high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, joint disease, and even diabetes. Canines can have these problems too. One of the top health problems among large dogs of this one’s nature is the diagnosis of lip dysplasia. It’s painful and without treatment it could prevent the dog from walking at all. The other diseases along with hip dysplasia can shorten a dog’s life considerably.

I truly feel bad for whomever has to help this poor dog lose the weight put upon him by his owner(s). It will take months of monitoring the health of the dog as a new diet plan is implemented as well as an exercise protocol; however, this dog might be too far gone.

Pet ownership is a privilege. Care for your pet by giving him/her the best care possible so the animal can live life to the fullest. My former dog passed away at the ripe old age of 14. She was a large-breed dog in excellent overall health but she was old and her body simply gave out on her. As she crossed that Rainbow Bridge where all animals go when they leave this world, I think I did everything possible to give her a great home and a great life. We were a team.
