I am always on the look out for unusual books with lots of photos and I have found one about historic horse facilities. This book is called simply “Stables” and features 25 notable stables across the USA. Done in the style of a coffee table book that has lots of photos this book looks to be one that is good for browsing through during the wet season when riding is limited.

The front cover looks intriguing and the publishers statement of listing both historical and state of the art stables has me interested. They mention fountains and spa like landscaping for the Arabian horse barn in California. The book also goes into detail with the restoration of a stable on the east coast that originally housed draft horses and now is the home to polo ponies and retired race horses. Published just a few months ago, in April 2010, this book should be up to date on their information. The best part about it is that the book is now on sale. It was listed at $55 and now it is 35% of of that price. I wonder if it has something to do with everyone wanting digital books now? I don’t know but low tech books are great since they don’t need power to run them, just good lighting and somewhere comfortable. I can imagine explaining to my grandchildren one day what a bound book was.
