Herbal treatments for horses
I have a horse that is starting to exhibit Cushings syndrome. The mare is 18 this year and this past winter she started to get that curly long coat which is the first outward sign of the syndrome. I have been told that once a horse starts to exhibit that sign, the horse usually has a life expectancy of 6 months to 2 more years. The syndrome is caused by a tumor that is growing on a gland in her brain. There is no cure but there are treatments.
After discussing the situation with our vet we decided to go with several herb combinations to treat the syndrome. Other than the long coat, the mare is not undergoing another symptom of Cushings and that is laminatus. I have been looking at several herbs for pain and good for older animals as a tonic and did come across cissus quadrangularis but I can find no information about its use for animals, only humans.
I can tell you one thing, when a pet of mine has a health problem I sure do get an in-depth medical education.
