Life insurance for your pet

Would you purchase life insurance for your pet? You would if the pet was a show animal, but what about just being the family pet?

I had no problem with those questions when I bred my National Show Horse mare 10 years ago. It was her first and only foal so I was worried that she might not fair well during delivery so I got a life insurance quote on her. For $150 I had her insured for a year. She was insured for $5K. The money would have been used to pay for any vet bills she might have incurred prior to her death.

Thankfully I did not need to use the policy but it was there should I have needed it. The plus side of it was the policy also proved her value should I want to sell her at that time or claim her on our taxes as part of a business.
